Mission: Mission 0: The Healy Returns
Location: XO's Office
Timeline: 03 FEB 2394, 11:00

Lieutenant Aoife Burke had been scheduled to go aboard the USS Healy as it's Chief Intelligence Officer for the past six months. However, when she arrived at Outpost 39 the ship was underway on a mission and instead of getting transport to the ship she'd been assigned temporary duty with the Task Force Intelligence Unit based at the outpost. A week into her temporary assignment she found herself on a field mission and it wasn't until now that she finally was able to get aboard Healy when they returned from their most recent assignment.

She felt like she stood out as she wore her intelligence uniform throughout the Outpost and now the ship. Most Intelligence units gave their personnel the option to wear red uniforms however not knowing the policy aboard the ship she pulled on one of her black duty uniforms before coming aboard. It didn't take her long to get to the XO's office having checked the ship's schematic on her PADD when she first stepped aboard the ship. Before she knew it the XO had answered the chime at his door and she was standing before him at attention.

"Lieutenant Aofie Burke, sir."

Jason looked up from his reading. A professional scowl had formed on his face. He looked her up and down, making mental notes for himself. He had known she was coming, of course, it was his job to know. He was the one who proposed her to Bahe. He had read her service file, he had seen the redacted parts, or better said that he had seen the few non-redacted parts. Then he spoke to a friend of a friend, and he had read the redacted parts. That too, Jason felt was his job.

"Welcome to the Healy, Lieutenant," Jason said. "At ease, I'm getting a sore back just from looking at you." His scowl lessened a fraction. "Your formal orders, please. And then the less formal ones too." He extended his hand towards her.

"Less formal orders?" Aofie asked, as she pulled the PADD from her cargo pocket and brought the orders up and then handed it across. "That's my personal PADD sir," she told him, so he'd know she needed it back.

Jason accepted the PADD and activated it, browsing the already familiar content of it. "When most Intelligence officers are assigned a ship they receive their official orders." He looked up at her and raised the PADD in his hand for clarification, "But nine times out of ten their section head tends to give them a second set of suggestions, instructions, or whatever else they're called. To keep an eye out for this, an ear out for that." He placed the PADD down and folded his hands, locking his eyes on hers.

His scowl drifted away into a small, but pleasant smile. "I'd rather not have to spend the time and effort to find out what you're supposed to be vigilant for. Have you been given such instructions?"

"I'm not sure what you think is happening aboard the ship, sir," she said, flatly. "This is an analytical department and as far as I can tell given our explorative nature I don't think we'll have a whole lot to do."

Jason shrugged, "Some misdirection thrown my way, it seems." He chuckled softly to himself, even old friends can be crafty. "The orders seem in order, do you need someone to show you the way to either your department or your quarters? I can imagine you'd like to settle in."

"I think I can manage sir but I'll not say no to the company if you're looking for some?" she said. She supposed it was something odd to say to your superior but Aoife knew being in good with the unit's command was useful.

A look of confusion passed over Jason's face before he smiled a more honest smile, "I appreciate the offer, but I meant for a Yeoman to escort you."

"I'm okay sir, but thank you," she said. "If there's nothing else?" she asked, standing.

"No that's fine lieutenant. You're dismissed." Jason offered her a last, friendly and faux smile before returning to his reading.

"Thank you, sir," she said.
