Oh God

Mission: Mission 0: The Healy Returns
Location: Bahe Quarters

After checking the computer to find that LCDR Ekke was in fact in her quarters and that her father was in fact not with her she practically ran from hers to theirs. She rang the bell about five times and then remembered that the counselor was enormous and she should probably give her time to get to the door. The young girl was practically hyperventilating when it was finally answered.

Wrapped in a gigantic, fluffy bathrobe, Franzi shuffled barefoot across the room to answer the chime. She had sent Ben out to fetch a giant breakfast bowl from one of the starbase's fine eateries—he knew which one. His baby demanded it. It was too soon for him to be back already, so it was a surprise to hear someone at their door. It was more of a surprise to find Doctor Novak there.

"I have to report to Captain Bahe and I don't know what to do!" she said, practically shouting at her soon to be step-mom.

Pinching the bony bridge of her nose, Franzi shook her head. This girl was a disaster. "Don't overthink it. Just go in like you did with Wilcox."

"But he's not my father... and doesn't know."

"There's an old human aphorism: 'Fake it till you make it.'" Franzi reached out and gripped April's shoulders, giving her a small but firm shake. "You need to fake it. Do not dump the whole truth on him when you report in. No good will come of it. There will be a right time and place, but while reporting for duty is not it."

April was about to say something but the doors to their quarters opened and in walked Ben. April turned white and looked like she was about to pass out.

"What's going on?" Ben asked, as he walked in and approached his soon-to-be wife and the woman he assumed to be the new medical officer his XO was concerned over.

Franzi's focus immediately shifted to Ben, the subject of conversation. "Oumriel," she said, smiling as she stepped toward him. "Does that have the extra crispy bacon that I like?"

"Of course," he said, his focus still on the Ensign. "Is there something wrong?" he asked, turning his attention back to Franzi.

"Just an overwhelming first few days," she answered. She looked to April, hoping that she knew that this was a very bad time to spill all the beans. "Ben, I believe you'll be meeting with Doctor Novak later this morning, yes?"

"Perhaps," he said, turning to the young woman. "Doctor?"

"Y-yes sir, I'll see you later on," she said. "I'm sorry for disturbing you both," she said, before rushing past her father and out of the door.

Ben watched her do it and then turned back to face his wife, "do you think she'll be okay?"

"She has... a lot on her mind," Franzi answered, patting Ben's shoulder. She envied neither party. "She might have a lot to discuss with you later."

"Oh?" he asked, he looked concerned. "What should I know?"

Franzi truly found herself between a rock and a hard place. Finally, she said, "Let's meditate... I'll show you what I know."

"I don't like the sound of this, Oumriel," he said, taking her hand so she could lead him to where she'd be comfortable.
