OUCH

Posted on 15 Aug 2018 @ 12:04am by Commander Dominic Dalgaard MD, PsyD & Lieutenant Kesari Lor

Mission: Mission 0: The Healy Returns
Location: Sickbay, Deck 6

While Kesari was readying her new lab, the sharp edge of a stray slide founds its way into the palm of her hand. Now, with a rag pressed to wound and a concerned look on her face, she hustled into the medical bay looking for a doctor. (And perhaps some first aid kits would be a good idea for the laboratory.)

"Can I help you?" Dom asked, spotting Kesari in sickbay and noting the not blood soaked rag pressed to her hand.

"Yes, please," she answered with some urgency. She approached the doctor despite being slightly wobbly on her feet. "It's a laceration to my palm. Depth unknown. Feeling woozy."

Immediately, the doctor ushered her to a biobed and help her sit. He pulled rag from her hand. Sterilizing the wound, he started talking to the woman. "What's your name?"

"Kesari." She watched the doctor work with some fascination and mild nausea, before adding, "Lor. Kesari Lor. What's yours?"

"Dominic Dalgaard." He said clumsily. "Ermmm, Doctor." He reached for a dermal regenerator, and activated it over her wound.

"Well, I figured that." She noticed the commander rank set against his teal collar. "CMO?"

“Yeah.” He was focused on his work, but looked up to her collar briefly. “Science Department eh? What’s your specialty?”

"Oh, astrophysics, exobiochemistry, mycology, geology... Astrophysics is the main one, though." Kesari ran out of breath rattling off her science spiel. "Geology is more of a hobby, though. 'It rocks,'" she punned sheepishly.

Dom let out a very small chuckle of amusement. “There.” He said, turning off his tool. “How’s it feel?”

Raising her hand, Kesari made a fist, opened it, then gave her fingers a wiggle. "Nice work!" she remarked with a smile. "Thanks for patching me up."

He smiled back. She was really quite striking. He found himself gazing at her and wanting to know more about her. Her smile was magnetic.

She hopped down from the biobed. "Well, I'm sure I'll be back in your sickbay sooner than later, Dominic Dalgaard Doctor. Science is risky business."

“Hopefully we won’t have to amputate next time.” Dominic laughed quite loudly.

Kesari laughed nervously and blushed. "You'll... you'll find an extensive reattachment and reconstruction surgery already on my record..." Her fingers scratched absentmindedly at her right shoulder. The nerves were repaired a long time ago, but she could swear that they still itched beneath her skin. "But that's a long story."

Smiling, Dominic took out a tricorder and ran it over her hand. He closed it. "Next time." He said with a wink. "Maybe over drinks?"

She returned his smile and nodded. "That would be enjoyable. You know where to find me—unless I turn up here again first."

The Doctor raised an eyebrow. "How about we try to keep visits to Sickbay out of your routine, deal?"

Her smile strained into a grimace. "Well... Things tend to happen around me. But I'll try."

Dominic took a step back so she could get up. "When do you get off?"

"I can be off by 1630. Sound good?"

"1700, The Opal Room?" He walked her toward the doors that led away from the main ward.

"I don't know what that is, but I like hydrated amorphous silica," she stated as she strolled toward the exit. "I will see you in a few hours, Doctor!"
