Leaving port

Mission: Mission 0: The Healy Returns
Location: Ready Room
Timeline: 04 FEB, 1330

Apaxi sighed once again as he stepped through the airlock. Behind him was Starbase 65. For the last two years it had been home to him, though it felt longer. He had found love, happiness, horror, and some truly weird shit. But he'd miss being there. He had tried fighting the promotion, and the transfer. Arguing that he'd be more valuable on 65 than out on a ship again. But with Captain Lowell dead, he didn't have a command officer backing him. So here he was, off on a new adventure under a new captain. Here's hoping it'll feel like home, Apaxi thought.

A few minutes later, he navigated his way through the corridors and turbolifts to the captain's office. He pressed the buzzer and patiently waited for the call. A voice through the door permitted him. A soft hiss, parting doors. "Commander Apaxi Volcum, reporting for duty captain."

"Welcome aboard Healy Commander," Ben said, standing to shake his hand. "Have a seat," he said, motioning to the chair after they shook.

"Thank you, sir." With a shook hand, Apaxi took the offered seat. He had pulled the PADD with his orders out of his pocket and laid it on his lap.

"I've heard good things, Commander," the Captain said. "I hope the Healy won't be too boring for you. She's a few years old now but we've taken good care of her."

"I came from an aging station, so a ship with a few light years under her belt is a step up, sir." Apaxi replied. "Command decided my skills would be of better use here than there."

"Well, hopefully, we won't have so much work for you then. Though with the expanse and not knowing what to find inside who knows," he shrugged. "You're aware of our mission, yes?"

"To boldly go where no man has gone before, into the expanse to be specific?" Apaxi replied, a grin forming on his face as he recited the first line of every Starfleet recruitment brochure ever written.

"Something like that."

"Is there anything else, sir?" Apaxi asked.

"Nothing," Ben said. "Welcome aboard."
